Early Friday morning around four AM, Metro Police discovered the thirty nine year old Democrat representing northeastern Las Vegas passed out behind the wheel of his Jeep Wrangler near North Lamb Boulevard and East Lake Mead Boulevard. Officers found Flores unresponsive at a red light with his keys in the ignition, the vehicle in drive, and his foot on the brake.
When officers knocked on his window to wake him, Flores appeared disoriented. "Why are you sleeping in your vehicle?" an officer asked. "Sorry, I think I must have fallen asleep," Flores responded. Police noted his speech was soft and delayed, his eyes were droopy, and they detected a slight smell of alcohol.
During questioning, officers asked "How much have you had to drink tonight? Be honest with me." Flores admitted to consuming one Michelob around midnight. He explained he had been playing soccer at Sunset Park and was heading home, though he struggled to recall his address.
Field sobriety tests conducted by Metro Police detected signs of impairment, leading to his arrest. However, when Flores voluntarily submitted to a breathalyzer at the station, the results showed zero point zero zero blood alcohol content. He also agreed to a blood test and was released on his own recognizance without posting bail.
Flores' team issued a statement saying "The Senator acknowledges he was tired" after "a long day of work, community events, evening exercise and a late dinner." They added that "The breathalyzer confirmed a zero point zero zero BAC, and we are confident the blood test will confirm the same."
A status hearing is scheduled for January twelfth.
