Welcome to Arrest Stories. A forty-three-year-old Batavia chiropractor has been arrested after authorities discovered more than one hundred eighty secretly recorded videos of nude patients at his practice. Here's what may have happened.
David Hanson, owner of Hanson Family Chiropractic in Batavia, was taken into custody on November fifth following an investigation that uncovered extensive hidden camera recordings throughout his medical facility. Authorities conducted searches of both Hanson's home and chiropractic office on the same day of his arrest.
The investigation revealed that Hanson had secretly videotaped patients while they were unclothed or undressing using hidden cameras placed throughout his office. Officials stated that many of the recordings appear to be taken from a red light room used for red light and near-infrared light therapy. This type of therapy requires patients to be fully nude or partially nude to receive the treatment's effects.
According to investigators, there were multiple devices hidden behind vents or fans in the therapy room so patients would not see them during their visits. The victims ranged from children to adults, with officials confirming the age ranges begin at a minimum of three years old and extend beyond that.
Beyond the unauthorized recordings at his practice, authorities also discovered that Hanson was possessing and disseminating multiple videos containing child sexual abuse material that were unrelated to his chiropractic practice. Officials described this as an excessive amount of child sex abuse material found through the investigation.
One official commented that someone like this, who has no concern for the people he's supposed to help, can't be trusted in the community, adding that Hanson knew he was doing wrong. Another stated that this is not a person they want in their community.
Hanson appeared in court on November sixth for a pretrial detention hearing following his arrest on November fifth.
